DJ PHI PHI
Philippe Toutlemonde
A key figure in Belgian electronic music
Born on 30 October 1963, Philippe Toutlemonde, better known as DJ Phi Phi, began his DJ career in 1985. Over the following decades, he became one of the important figures in Belgium's electronic music and club culture.
In 1987, he became a resident DJ at the legendary At The Villa. His career then took him through many of Belgium's most famous clubs, including Boccaccio Life, Cirao, Café d'Anvers, Tour & Taxi, Fuse, Oxygene, Pulp, Barocco and Extreme.
Between 1994 and 2002, his legendary “Phi Phi Legendary Mondays” at Extreme became a major meeting point for an entire generation of clubbers. His extended DJ sets, built as long musical journeys, helped shape the Belgian trance and progressive sound of the 1990s.
DJ and producer
Phi Phi's career extends far beyond the DJ booth. At the end of the 1980s, he began producing music with Philippe Van Mullem, working on projects such as Honey C, UNA, Innertales and Quadran.
In 1995, his collaboration with Greg D resulted in “Jesus Trip”, a track that became one of the defining productions of the Belgian trance scene. Further classics followed, including “L'Odysee of Love” and “Contact”.
Throughout his production career, Phi Phi has collaborated with artists and producers including Airwave, Roddy Reynaert, Manu Riga and Stef Garner. His productions have appeared on labels such as Bonzai Progressive, Mackenzie Recordings, Ifonika Recordings, Suffused and LCD Recordings.
An international career
Phi Phi has performed at clubs and festivals well beyond Belgium, including Tomorrowland, Legacy Festival, WMC Miami, Nikki Beach Miami and Privilege Ibiza.
He has also shared line-ups with international artists such as Paul van Dyk, John Digweed, Sasha, Laurent Garnier, Danny Howells and Oliver Lieb.
A name deeply connected to Belgian Retro House history
With more than four decades behind the decks, DJ Phi Phi has become an important name in the history of Belgian electronic music.
His career connects several generations of club culture — from the pioneering Belgian clubs of the 1980s and 90s, through the golden era of trance and progressive, to today's retro events keeping that musical heritage alive.
DJ Phi Phi remains one of the names that stands out when looking back at the history of Belgian trance and electronic music in the 1990s.
